Burley Park

Burley Park is an important inner-city park, although people search for it in vain on the Leeds City Council website. The departure of Burley Phoenix Scouts group for the Hawksworth Wood Estate has allowed the Leeds City Council Parks Service to relocate into the former scout hut on Burley Road. Unfortunately, this has not led to any general improvement in the condition of the park. The rose garden is a continuing disappointment, the perimeter fence is defaced by graffiti and the area is marred by large and inexplicable heaps of rubbish.

The origin of all this mess is something of a mystery, since far more rubbish has been collected together than could reasonably arise from the park itself. Nevertheless, the park is well used and plainly meets a significant human need in an area that suffers from a chronic shortage of public open space.
