Crooked Acres

The former residential care home at Crooked Acres is currently vacant and boarded up. The NHS has submitted a planning application 07/02745/FU to convert this building at the junction of Abbey Walk and Spen Lane into 10 flats for ordinary use. We were concerned that this application boundary excluded part of the garden, so there might be another application in the pipeline to build on the remainder of this heavily wooded site. We are seeking assurances about this. Other points that we have made include:

• The rubbish bins could be much better sited.
• The stonework should not be chemically cleaned.
• It is not clear how the basement flat will be formed.
• Road safety measures are needed at this difficult junction.
• All the parking spaces should be on existing hard surfacing.

We insisted that this application was taken to members of the Plans West Panel to decide in public, after a site visit.
